A better True Stone.

Welcome to the new Truestonecoffee.com! We’ve been working on this guy for a while, and we’re excited to finally share it. This site better reflects who we are as a company,  what we strive for and why. Because, frankly, we’re better at this than we used to be. Our green buying team is more discerning, deliberate. Our roast profiling and quality control programs are more thorough. Our cool brew will save your life.

Sudden change can be jarring, though. We of all people understand this. So, for those of you who’ve been with us for a while, there are a few things I want to address up front.

  • With the exception of a few standard blends, the web store will now only feature the best of our seasonal selections, with as much information about their origins as possible. It’s just an accurate and honest way to do things. A Colombian coffee is so much more than a coffee from Colombia, roasted a certain way. It comes from a region, a farmer, a varietal, a hyper specific combination of soil and weather patterns and age-old techniques. We want to share this story with you, not only because its fascinating, but because we believe a connection to origin is an inescapable part of the coffee experience. For this reason, you may not find many of the standard coffees you’re used to seeing from us, and those you do find will come and go with varying degrees of consistency, dependent on the laws of supply and demand. Don’t worry about it, though. They’ll all be True Stone coffees, and they’ll all be great.
  • We believe selling smaller weights of coffee promotes a fresher product at the retail level, which is why we’ve changed the standard bag size 1lb to 12oz. As you may have surmised, this makes our coffee more expensive by volume, a necessary step we have managed to avoid for almost five years. There are a few reasons for this, which I’ll address in more detail below. But for those uncomfortable with this increase outright, or those who just need more coffee, we also offer a 2lb option with a volume discount of about 20%. By weight, this more or less matches our old prices.
  • We have always charged a flat shipping fee for single-item orders. However, cost increases over the years have forced us to raise this rate from $4 to $5. Fortunately we’re able to wave this fee for any order of $29 or more (the cost of any two 12oz bags or any single 2lb bag).

On the subject of higher prices, let me just say this: we’d love to be able to share cool coffees from around the world and keep the old prices. But unfortunately, those prices were no longer an accurate reflection of the hard dollars and cents we we pay to source our green coffee, nor did they account for the expert time and research we put into developing a coffee for market. Additionally, since we’ve chosen to source all our beans from small farms and coops, we pay a quality-based premium for each lot of coffee we find. This helps us offer better coffee on your end, and more fairly compensates farmers across the coffee-producing world for the hard work they put into their crops. The natural effect, of course, is that these extra expenses eventually work their way down the supply chain, which can be a tricky equation to manage. But we believe wholeheartedly that the end result is more than worth it, for you, for us and for the world.

So, that’s my bit.  If you have any comments or questions, please get in touch with us. Let’s be friends forever.

Cheers,
Tyler
